Happy 4th of July! I hope you are all celebrating the fact that we don't belong to this lady:

While I'm definitely going to be celebrating today with some yummy grilled and barbecued food, the new scale I got to review told me I gained about 15 pounds since my cross-country move, so you can bet I also have fitness on my mind. .
I'm trying hard not to freak out too much and keep telling myself that health and fitness is more than just a number. But, my shorts are all super tight and it's getting hot out and I am way too cheap to buy new ones. So for today's Friday Five Link Up I'm recapping how I did on my June goals and sharing five fitness related goals for July.
May Goal Recap:
I did a pretty good job of working out 6 days every week, although I still need to do more strength sessions.
I've been recording pretty much everything I eat in MyFitnessPal every day. Sticking to my calorie goal though is another story...
I didn't get back to my Chardonnay 10-Miler training mileage, but did vastly improve on May's 2 whole miles. Yay for setting the bar low!
Got my jump on at Airobic Fitness.
Definitely got to see some cool things around town, including the Channel Islands! Still lots more to explore though.
June Goals:
1. Hit my Fitbit step goal every week:
Thanks to the BEST customer service ever, I now have a replacement, working Fitbit for the one the bf got me last summer. I've definitely been walking a lot less since I moved to California, so I'm really excited to start tracking steps to be more active through the day.
2. Bike to work at least once a week
Keeping the more daily activity theme going, I need to be more consistent about biking to work. It's a really easy 2.5 mile ride, I just have to get over my fear of cars, other bikes, and falling down.
3. Do two morning workouts a week
I hate getting up early but it feels so good to get that workout done with. I'm going to brave the early wake up call and start the day right with exercise.

One of the reasons i hate morning workouts is probably because when I wake up early I just sleep less. Another cool perk about having the Fitbit back is being able to track my sleep, so I can hopefully get enough ZZZs to drink 2 cups of coffee a day instead of as many cups as I can find.
Because life should still be fun!
Q: What do you have coming up this month? Any tips for sleeping more and hating mornings less?
I noticed I need to get to bed earlier too. I just feel I always have so much to get done. Here is a tip for you if you want to start getting up earlier.....get a dog! they usually make sure we are up..lol
ReplyDeleteHaha I would love to get a dog. Someday when I have a house!
DeleteI don't mind the mornings. Though I've found it's best to jump straight out of bed, and into the day. That's the easiest way!
ReplyDeleteGood tip! I definitely won't work out in the morning if I try to do anything else first!
DeleteHaha, I got on a bike for the first time in YEARS! Pretty sure I run faster than I was biking. It's kind of unsettling after being on it for a while, so I totally get your reservations about biking to work! Good luck with your goals! :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha yes exactly! I bike so slowly, except when I'm going downhill :) Thanks!
Deleteooh beach volleyball sounds fun! Happy 4th
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th! I would love to get up to do morning workouts - bad thing is I DO get up early, but I like to stay in bed reading before work haha. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYea getting up early to read sounds much easier :) Thanks you too!
DeleteMy worst habit is playing on my iPhone in bed at night instead of just going to sleep! And it's not just Facebook and social media, I spend way too much time on solitaire. Regular, non-connected-to-other-players-old-school solitaire. So I'm trying to leave my phone outside the bedroom so I'll be so bored I'll get to sleep on time!
ReplyDeleteOh man haven't played solitare in forever! For me it's books and Netflix. So dangerous!
DeleteIt looks like you've been having an amazing time since moving to California. Great job on your goals so far, and it looks like July will be another good month! Fitbits are so popular now...I do wonder how many steps I take a day...
ReplyDeleteThanks Janelle! I really do like seeing how active I am and working towards step goals!
DeleteI've been trying to get to bed earlier myself. Marathon training is what I have coming up! I'm in Santa Barbara next month :) Running the Arroyo Creek half in Simi Valley August 10!
ReplyDeleteOh super exciting! Let me know if you have time to meet up for coffee!
DeleteGoing to bed early is definitely the hardest part! It takes a few weeks to get used to it though :)
ReplyDeleteI know, it's so hard to get to sleep! Hope I'll get used to it soon!
DeleteGetting to bed early is tough. But yet I naturally get up very early, so mostly I'm just left with not enough sleep :) As far as getting up early, it will take some time getting used to it. But I bet you will find early morning workouts are a great way to start the day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michele. Every time I wake up early I also just get less sleep. Hopefully I can start to adjust!
DeleteI'm with you on this morning workout train. Just 2 days a week, we can do it!
ReplyDeleteYay! Virtual workout buddies?
DeleteFitbit has great customer service! I just bought a used Zip off ebay, and I'm thinking that wasn't a good thing, as then I guess I don't get the official Fitbit warranty.
ReplyDeleteI guess it depends on your definition of "early" ... my #1 son and hubs are generally up and off quite early, and with them getting up and the sun streaming in, I have a hard time sleeping in. I generally hit the elliptical for 20 minutes first thing. I need that little activity spike on my Fitbit graph to start the day (and then get several more in as the day goes on).
Fitbit has such great customer service that they might replace your Zip if anything happens even if you bought it from Ebay. Love that you start your mornings by getting in a quick workout :)
