Just Saw A Pig Fly By - Registered for My First 5K

So, something crazy happened. I signed up for a race. And there's proof!

Yep, I registered for the Anthem Great Pumpkin 5K, an actual organized race where you run OUTSIDE from the start line to a finish line FIVE KILOMETERS away (which sounds really long but I realized recently is actually only 3.1 miles). I did this voluntarily, and I even paid for it! This is surprising, since,as you know by now my thoughts on running are pretty much summed up by the following meme.

So what was I thinking? Well, first of all I really need to run a couple races with less chance of serious injury/embarrassment than the super intimidating Spartan Race that I'm signed up for in March (more about how the heck THAT happened here). And this race has beer at the finish line! A lot of beer! The race is part of Oktoberfest Reston, and because I convinced the bf to run with me for the free drinks  to bond as a couple or something, our race registration came with 24 food and drink tickets!

The only drawback to this race is that it's in a week. And, while I've theoretically been training, it still takes me about 35 minutes to run 3 miles on a treadmill and I've only run that distance outside once. Oh well, hopefully the beer waiting for me will help get me to the finish line. If not, I can always keep this picturing this.
