August Recap and September Goals

Friday already?1 Man short weeks are great!

Since it's the first Friday of the month, I'm sharing five fitness related goals for September and recapping how I did on my goals in August. So, how did I do? Did I meet all my goals? Spoiler alert:

But, in the interest of keeping it real/using the power of the internet to shame me into doing better next time, I'm still sharing this post with the Friday Five Link Up. Here's to a better September!

August Goals:

1. Do 3 morning workouts a week
Surprised this is one of the TWO goals I checked off but I somehow managed to fit in 3 morning workouts every week.

2. Do 2 days of strength training a week
I know this is really good for me, but as you can tell by my sad lack of green stickers I only averaged about 1 strength session a week. Oh well, more incentive to do better this month!

3. Get at least 7 hours of sleep a night
I must have been dancing too hard because I lost my Fitbit on Fiesta Saturday. Fitbit has THE BEST customer service ever and sent me a new one, but I was without sleep tracking for a few weeks. I'm pretty sure I didn't come anywhere near to hitting this every night though...

4. Hit my Fitbit step goal every week
My lost Fitbit also means I lost some days of step tracking, and I'm pretty sure I slacked off when I didn't have my tracker. When I did have it, I did pretty well though, and even hit some crazy all-time step highs (including the night I lost it. Told you I was dancing hard!) so I'm going to call this good enough.

5. Try a new fitness class
Yea, kind of forgot about this one. Again. Oops.

September Goals:

1. Do 2 days of strength training a week
For some reason this has been really hard to stick to, even though I know it's super good for me. Definitely my #1 priority this month!

2. Finish my first 10K
So I sort of forgot/willfully ignored the fact that I'm running the She.Is.Beautiful 10K with a bunch of coworkers in about 2 weeks. I ran a 10-miler back in April but have actually never run a 10K before and haven't really been training so I probably won't be very fast but I'm definitely going to finish!

3. Get at least 7 hours of sleep a night
Another thing I know is really important but is hard for me to do.

4. Hit my Fitbit step goal every week
And don't lose my Fitbit again.

5. Play volleyball at least once a week
Since this is pretty much all I've been doing, you wouldn't think this is something I need to work on. But with my city rec leagues over until September, I won't have the opportunity to play unless I'm brave and show up for or schedule pick up games with people I don't know super well. So this is a social AND fitness goal. Boom.

Q: What are you planning for this month? Any tips for sticking with goals?

  1. Eh, goals are like rules: they are just guidelines (a good old pirate taught me that haha). For me, setting goals is about making mindful decisions to put myself firmly in that direction, then give myself something to commit to that matters (like, you are more likely to go to a new fitness class if you sign up at a gym, etc). Better luck this month!

  2. I used to have a calendar and would write all my workouts on it so I could hold myself accountable. However, since I moved this summer I have misplaced my calendar. I really need to get a new one.

  9. Great goals! That's awesome that you were able to get your Fitbit replaced! My main goal for September is to have a successful half marathon. After that I want to make sure I keep running and get back to yoga class!
